Guardian Piece on the Cesspit
https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/may/04/west-ham-first-season-london-stadium-slaven-bilic

`West Ham’s players have played ball in public, obligingly telling the world about what a thrill it is to play in such a wonderfully modern stadium, even though they have suffered some dreadful humiliations there this season. But the truth is different in private, where the brave faces disappear and the grumbling begins. Slaven Bilic’s team feel so uneasy in the new stadium that one senior player describes the Stratford experience as “terrible”.

`That closeness, that claustrophobia, has been conspicuous by its absence this season. Because of the running track, the players struggle to feel the atmosphere and the distance from the pitch prevents the crowd from getting on top of visiting teams. The place simply feels too big for a team of West Ham’s stature at the moment`

Usually a few big groups on the concourse during the game, oddly.

I'm pretty sure a lot of season tickets for the OS were snapped up by football tourists who won't be renewing next season, hopefully this will solve the issue of empty seats which were noticable even on Friday night. saying that, the atmosphere was the best I've seen and heard at the new ground and another factor is the stewarding has improved, mainly down to input from fans and better training, not to mention some common sense.

Possibly, or it could have been bods from the upper tier sneaking down to mind the gaps.

That was one of the best features I noticed on my visit, how you could move just about anywhere in the ground with nobody stopping you.

And Man U at home this season could have been a similar atmosphere, if it wasn't for an absolute cunt of a ref, who killed the game.

The whole officials team was at it that night. Remember their offside 2nd goal.

There were lots of empty seats in the first half, but hardly any in the second. Have people just been spending entire matches at the bar?

Indeed we have.

Just like we did many a time at the shithole that we called UP.

It was really busy at HT last night on the concourse.

We all your track record on attendance numbers so that comment means nothing.

Anyone claiming the attendance last night is similar to other league matches is a fucking idiot.

Strange, but I saw the same amount of empty seats as I usually do?

I'm not squirming, I said the atmosphere was good AND it was the most full I'd seen it.

Not sure how that can be interpreted as squirming you thick grassing cunt.

Very true- we still played great in that game despite being a man down.

That sending off of Feghouli was fucking ridiculous and undoubtedly cost us points.

So you are wrong again Johnsold? I won't dignify your nasty tone with a curt response. But it's great seeing you squirm.

I hate the Guardian with a vengeance, last nights game against Spurs showed the article up for what it was, idle specualtion and muck raking, two things this paper is rather good at.

So that's where we are at. Noisy against the teams we hate. Pretty muted against everyone else, and that had been the same at UP for quite a while.

Chelsea under the floodlights, great atmosphere. Spurs under the floodlights, ditto. Think sky might have done us a big favour with moving the Spurs game.

Remind me when the best atmosphere games were at UP? That's it, night games, against teams we hate. These two, and the Mancs, and obviously Millwall.

Re: Guardian Piece on the Cesspit

Not that I think it was the 'first game ever', it was rather buoyant for Chelsea in the Cup and Crystal Palace. You're getting desperate now Johnsold.

Last night must have been your worst nightmare. A vibrant stadium and a West Ham United win.

Re: Guardian Piece on the Cesspit
As I've said before there will be a good few games over the years where the atmosphere is rocking and last night sounded / looked superb. Gutted I didn't make it in the end.

It's clear that if the fans are up for it then it can be a special place to watch West Ham. It lacks the memories of UP but they will come over time.

I reckon next season will be much better, as like minded fans who want to sing / stand will be the same areas of the ground, like the BML and chav corner at UP.

Hopefully those who have bemoaned continually about how shit it is to watch football there will now start believing it doesn't have to be...as long as the fans are up for and the football on offer is decent then it can be decent.
